Principles of Design - Assignment 3 ( Paper Cutting)

Below will be my progress for this week on paper cutting.

Cutting the background.

Cutting the shapes of the feathers.

Arranging the feathers in various ways and find which is the best combination.

I need to say that paper cutting really requires patience and commitment.

Feedback
Mr.Vinod said that the image presented in a square form is a good choice. The exposure for the second photo is bad. Mr. Vinod commented that I shall pay more attention to the consistency of the photos in terms of exposure, moods and picture size. He also told me that consistency does not means taking similar photos over and over again. A good consistency is to produce pictures that are different but related to the theme in a limited range.

Reflection
I was supposed to take pictures of amusement park and vintage bikes. Last week, I convinced a friend of mine to lend me a bike to take the photos. I've found some vintage looking places for the photo taking and asked him to bring it out on Tuesday. But due to some personal reasons, he can't make it this week and I need to change my theme for the week to something else. I look through some of the old pictures and found some interesting portraits of my brother which i took sometime ago. I've learned that things should be plan beforehand or even a backup plan is better then last minute works without a proper plan.

Principles of Design - Assignment 3 (Paper Cutting)

Miss Lisa gave us a short lecture on composition again to refresh us on our understanding about composition. After that, she assigned a new assignment which is paper cutting. She showed us some amazing works of our seniors from the previous batch.

We are told to propose at least 6 themes.

The themes I proposed for the first time is

1.beautiful world
2. Musical tree
3. Buildings
4. Colourful love birds
5. Flower fairy
6. Tortoise

Miss Lisa then said that my themes were not specific enough and asked me to propose for the second time.

1. Parrot love birds
2. Mermaid
3. Wedding dress
4. Skull head
5. Haunted house
6. Dream catcher
7. Ballerina
8. Victorian Building

Miss Lisa chose the parrot love birds and  haunted house. I was told to sketch 3 symmetry and 3 asymmetry  sketches for each theme.

And at last, Miss Lisa chose the parrot love birds and gave me some suggestions on the borders and shape of the assignment work.

Feedback
Very nice work. Would have been better if it is shot against a white wall as oppose to the window.

Reflection
When Mr. Vinod asked us to take a potrait of ourself within the school compound, I actually struggled to take the photos as I don't have my camera with me. Since I'm very bad at taking selfies, I actually retook the photos for uncountable times until i got frustrated. After some hesitation i made some temporary decisions on the photos I wanted to edit. I'm actually quite lucky as I don't need to go through the consequences of downloading photoshop as my brother has it. However, I've had no idea how to use it although Mr. Vinod gave us some explanations. I tried putting the pictures together to put layers and it just doesn't seem to work the same way as what Mr. Vinod taught us as I had a different version. I used 2 days just to figure out the buttons and tools of photoshop and even till now I'm still quite blur about what is the tabs and buttons are all about. After I got a slight hint of the tools since I watched some tutorials on youtube, I started to edit my portrait and it turned out quite badly and i decided to redo it. I took a new photo and edit it again. I add some layer mask and adjust the exposure of the photo. The tones are also edited using the layer option. After that I went through some old photos and decided to combine the photos of a scenery with my photo to make it more attracting as it seems dull. After some effort, I finally finished editing. To be honest, I'm not satisfied as I over smudge some parts and it doesn't seems to fix no matter how many undo i clicked. After i posted the profile pic as my profile picture, one of my friend actually said that it looks like a grandma looking outside the window. I need to admit that my course mates did a better job and photoshop is actually quite interesting as it is a fresh thing to me.

Principles of Design - Assignment 2 (Composition-Presentation)

Above will be my video. I need  to admit that i actually did a bad job on working on the compositions as some parts of my video had lost its focus points. When i watched the works of my classmates, I was amazed by some which are amazingly creative and some of them are really good with lightings.

Besides I need to apologize to my family as I went out quite often to take some pictures and missed out some family events despite the fact of my mom was actually quite worried about my safety.

Principles of Design - Assignment 2 (Composition)

Miss Lisa gave us a short lecture on composition and the rules of thirds. She asked us to draw a box with nine box and draw the flower anywhere we want. It appears that most of us had place the flower in the middle of the box. Miss Lisa then explains the importants of composition in making an picture looks more appealing.

After the lecture, Miss Lisa gave us a brief on our second assignment which is to produce an video using a black frame with fixed size. We were told to go around the campus to search and think of some themes that we would like to do for the video.

Since I had to go off earlier, Miss Lisa asked me to propose my themes and ideas on our class group on facebook.

The themes I proposed was,

1. My life

2. Miniatures
3. Memories Retained within a Click
