2D Design - Assignment 3 Monogram

When I showed my monogram to Miss Lisa before printing, she says that the monogram is lack of something which doesn't really describes me well. We discussed about the shapes I like, the colours I like and several other element and we still have no idea about the missing element. I got stressed and tried to draw another monogram nut I just couldn't think of any designs. Miss Lisa asked me to go for a break and think about myself. I went through my photos again and found a aroma light which I made for CTS last semester  and showed it to Miss Lisa. She said that the missing element is warmth. After that I produced a series of sketches and showed it to Miss Lisa.







At last I chose the wings design and started to cut the transparency for the stenciling.

2D Design - Assignment 3-(Monogram)

After Miss Lisa saw my design she chose two most favourable design and asked me to choose one of them. 

After I chose my monogram design, I go on to drawing it on a graph paper to get the balance and actual measurements. At first I drew it with a marker which makes the measurement gone wrong and Miss Lisa told me to draw with a pencil instead.

Introduction to Business - Charity Drive

Charity Drive
We are assigned to do a charity drive in a group of 5. Jieyi, Shukie, Wei Yi and KuaiBing discussed about the products that we are going to sell. After the short discussion, we came up with the things we wanted to sell.

After we proposed the things we wanted to sell, Mr. Joe gave us some suggestions and we comfirmed the list of items which is going to be sell on the charity drive.

  4. Notebooks
  5. Popsicles
Next, we assigned the tasks equally with each of us playing a role as accountant, sales manager, marketing manager, and project manager. Besides that, we decided to donate all our earnings to SPCA an animal charity organization. We set our budget for the stocks at Rm1000 and and each of us are willing to pay Rm 200 each. We also discussed about the sponsorship and two of the group members had comfirmed to give Rm500 each.

After that, we searched Taobao for the products supplies because it is cheaper compared to other websites. We found the phone cases and note books in a fairly low price which ensure the product quality. Next, we bought stickers and drew on it to come out with the designs of the laptop stickers and anime stickers.

After a week of survey on the most used phones, we decided to sell iphone 4,5 and samsung s4 and note 3 covers. Besides that, we also did some laptop and anime stickers design. We ordered the stocks and it arrived after a month. Wei Yi is assigned to keep the stocks due to transportation factors and she brought it to school on the day.

During the charity drive week, we started our booth at 10 am in the morning and close at 4pm in the evening. In the beggining of the charity drive, our sales did'nt go on well. However, our sales starts to stable down starting from Wednesday. Our sales starts to increase gradually and in the end we earned approximately 1800 Ringgit.

In the following week, we went to SPCA to visit the animals and made a donation. Some of the animals are suffering from some illness or dificiency which makes them homeless. However, I'm glad that they had a shelter now.

2D Design - Assignment 3( Monogram )

During the last class, Miss Lisa told us to sketch a minimum of 15 monogram design which can describe ourselves. For me, I design my monogram using the keyword collected.

These are my sketches for the monogram:







In the class, we gathered around the table again. This time all of us had the chance to propose the things we like and the keyword we chose. For me, I chose the keyword collected.

After I proposed, Miss Lisa said that she doesn't see me in the items I showed the class. The things I chose are too structured and industrial. The class describes my style as organic instead of structured. After that, I searched my phone for the pictures which I saved from Pinterest on the things I like such as jewellery, dress, artworks and showed it to Miss Lisa. This time she agrees that these things describe me well and I showed her my sketches. Coincidently, I realized that my sketches are more towards the keyword of cool, calm or simple instead of the word structured. I was told to produce a more detail sketch and show it to her on the next class.

  • Control is the process of monitoring a firm’s performance to ensure that it is meeting its goals.
  • Various ways of exercising control over firm.
  1. Installing CCTVs in your firm premises
  2. Having a floor manager in the factory to supervise workers’ productivity.

Accounting

An information system that does 2 things:
1) Record all the transactions of a business
2) Summarizing those records into a report

Accounting

  • Recording transaction-book keeping
  • Generate reports to assist in decision making
  • Evaluating business performance
  • Discourage employees stealing money from the business.


The Income Statement

  • Reports of the revenue,expenses and profit of a business.
  • The basic idea is the revenue minus the expenses paid, results in a profit or loss for the business.
  • Revenue – Expenses = Profit/Loss
Class activity
We are told to do an accounting report in the class based on the information given.

Product

  • Every product must serve a purpose to the customer
  • It must have features and brig benefit to customers


Price

  • Setting the right price for the product is important.
  • If a product is too expensive, customers will not buy it.
  • If the price is too low, you will not make enough profit.


Packaging

  • Refers to physical package that protect the product
  • Provide useful information to customers


Promotion

  • Make customer aware of the product
  • Attract more customer
  • Methods for promoting

  1. Advertising
  2. Personal selling-talking one to one with the customer
  3. Publicity-product that publish at the newspaper or magazine
  4. Sales promotion-short term promotion

Place

  • Making convenient for customer to buy your product
  • 2 type of distribution-

  1. Direct distribution-from producer to consumer
  2.  Non direct-middleperson distribute the product to customer

  • Direct Channels

  1.   Pro: Goods are cheaper because it does not need middleperson(s).
  2.   Con: This channel is not suitable for most products. E.g. Nobody drives down to the factory to buy one pack of chewing gums.

  • Non-direct Channels

  1.   Pro: Retail stores makes it very convenient for customers to obtain the products.*
  2.   Con: Goods are more expensive (than direct channel) because the middleperson (e.g. retail stores, wholesalers) also needs to make a profit.

  • Consumer buying process

  1. Recognizing a problem or a need
  2. Searching for information
  3. Evaluating option
  4. Making a purchase
Through this lecture, I learned more about marketing and the ways to do it. The 5ps play an important role in the marketing plan. Besides that, I also understands the 4 steps of consumer buying process.
