Principles of Design - Assignment 4 ( Color Carnival - It's the Day )

The colour carnival falls on the same day as our course bbq party. We decided to held the carnival during the bbq party.

Early in the morning, all of us came early to class to prepare the props for the games. One of our class mates baked the cupcakes overnight. We seperate our jobs into different groups. Our team is responsible on filling up the balloons with acrylic and some of them will do the signboard while the others help out each other on moving the things and preparing the tools such as trays water colour and many more.

We work for a few hours before the game and all of us are stained with colours before the game starts.

When it is time to set up, everyone carried the props to the game area and set up the canvas and tables.

When it  reaches 7.30 pm people starts to crowd and the party and carnival officially starts. We had fun bursting the balloons and getting ourself all dirt and colourful.

When the carnival ends, we work as one to keep the things and moved the paint created by the students and the color splash game to the design room.

Principles of Design - Assignment 4 ( Color Carnival - Trial Run )

We bought some materials and set up a trial run on the games.

The color art had problems with the density of the materials. The colours sank below the layer of the oil due to its high density and the color couldn't transfer onto the paper. They tried to eliminate the oil and it works.

The color splash had a hard time with bursting the balloon simply because the ballon was too thick and we decided to change it to water balloons. Besides, bursting the ballons with the bb gun is also quite dangerous and we changed the bursting tool to darts.

Although we had some problems with the game, we work together to think of a solution and solved the problem.

The beach photos is okay. Some of the photos need cropping. I can choose 5 photos from the series to submit it as my final 5.

Reflection

Mr. Vinod told me to settle on one topic due to the time limit. But when i receive the feedback, I had just finished another topic. Therefore, I chose to focus on 2 topics. The beach photos are actually took during the  week before. For the other topic, I suddenly thought of an idea of capturing pictures of women who wants to express her feelings through body language and emotions. Due to the poor lighting condition, Some of the photos may need some editing to make the emotions stronger.

This week Miss Lisa asked us to do some research on color experiments. We were given a period of time to search for interesting experiments and we went through some websites and videos regarding colour experiment.

After we showed Miss Lisa what we found, The class decide to go on with the colour splash game which is bursting a color filled balloon with a bb gun, the color art game which colours are place on top of a layer of oil and it will create a marble like effect and the cupcakes with different flavours as compared with its appearance.

Reflection

Since I didn't update my blog last week, I posted two new attempts this week followed by an update of a previous theme. I admit that i did not do well on the photos and it wasn't as great as my other classmates. I tried my best on getting a better lighting and composition but it doesn't came out as it is thought to be. I took some photos of some smokers and the smokes can't seem to be seen cause it disappears quite fast and the lighting was bad. For the seaside photos, some of them are actually pictures I took during vacations and from my previous visit to Port Dickson. One of the portrait was also taken there and I actually didn't ask my brother to pose for the photo. I just thought that his action was cute and interesting. As what Mr.Vinod said, I shall keep the mood consistency for  the pictures. I took the other photo randomly and I find it interesting that the sunlight actually gives a good light source to the photo. I should also really be aware that the size of my photos are different and I shall set a constant picture size next time.

Feedback

The scenery shots at the beach is good, needs more work. I need to settle with a topic, there is no time left. Please ensure to focus on one topic area.

Principles of Design - Assignment 4 ( Colour Carnival )

After the paper cutting presentation, Miss Lisa gave us a short lecture on colours and explained our 4th assignment which is a colour carnival. We get into groups of 3 and started our discussion about the games or activities which is fun and could produce an artwork.

After every group proposed the ideas, Miss Lisa suggested that each group can work on a particular colour scheme.

Principles of Design - Assignment 3 ( Paper Cutting - Presentation )

We put up our artworks on the windows around the class room just like an exhibition. Miss Lisa was quite satisfied with some of our works. We are required to explain our theme and lessons learned throughout the process of doing this assignment.

My theme was parrot love birds. The reason i chose parrots is because they have colourful feathers and it reminds me that love isn't just about lust and happy moments. It is filled with joy, tears, arguments, and laughter. The biggest lesson I had learned is to be more patience as I am someone which is quite impatient at times despite the fact that I ruined alot of feathers. I also gain some experienced in paper cutting and bucked up my cutting skills.

Good exposure. Some of the photos are boring and repitition of the same type of place occurs. Angle of the camera can be better.

Reflection

   This week, I took some photos on my original theme which is bicycles. Last week, Mr. Vinod said my photos doesn't have consistency on the mood of the picture and the size format of the images. When i took the pictures of my subject matter, I tried to kept the same mood and size format but still made the same mistake as the last picture in my portfolio which i took it horizontally. I also tried to take the photos with consistency and it turned out that i have some pictures which are similar which makes it boring as Mr. Vinod said that a good set of pictures should have different type of pictures within a range. As I look back at my photos, I realized that there are quite a number of disturbing factors such as the food container on the bicycle and the papers on the floors. But despite the disturbing factors, I actually manage to find some vintage looking places in a concrete city like this. I should really start to learn how to take photos with a better exposure and composition.
